Summer: It brings to harvest the loveliest of flowers, fulfilling the promise of the earlier months

I was just reading Mal's blog and she mentioned in her post that no one updates their blog anymore. I thought the same thing, and like Mal, realized I haven't updated mine in FOREVER. Now, I'm not even sure anyone reads my blog, but I enjoy little postings and finding fun things in the interweb to share. And rather than recap all of last semester, I will say now that next semester I will try to be beter about updating. So for now: Summer! That wonderful time of year with long days and tan lines. BBQ's and baseball games. Vacations and blockbuster movies. *sigh*

Side note: Pandora is being fussy today. The sound is on, the sound is off mid song...bleh. But shut it down and listen to my itunes instead? Preposterous.

This summer has already had so many amazing things packed into it! Some highlights:

*Coming home to California and immediately watching the Bachelorette premiere! Literally, I landed, and drove straight to Erica's to watch it. And not only that, but getting a text from Kelly saying she was also watching it and Joe Lange's interest was piqued. I knew in that moment that I had formed friendships at school that would continue through the summer, despite the distance. Mix that with being at the Leifur's house (the most comfortable home I've ever been in), and my heart was warm.

*Being back at Neighborhood! There is a lot that can be said about this, but I just love my church family. I need them. I have come to realize that I really can't even make the distinction of calling them my church family. They are my family. Plain and simple.

*Little Jen getting us tickets to see Gavin Rossdale at the Fillmore! I'm not a big Gavin Rossdale fan, but I am a fan of the Fillmore and hanging out with my friends. Oh, and of free things. It was a very interesting night, we laughed a ton, and enjoyed each other's company. Erica was convinced she was high from being hotboxed at the Fillmore. Mal and I enjoyed the people watching. Good times.

*Heather coming to visit! This confirmed my theory that my worlds could collide and everyone would enjoy hanging out with each other. Tristan also came out for the evening to enjoy some delicious Pyzano's and watch a movie. I loved loved loved seeing school friends here in California. And speaking of watching movies...

*Going to the movies! I know, they're expensive here, but I work around that. I attend matinees, and cheap theaters like Chabot. By the way, I love Chabot Cinema. If you don't frequent Chabot Cinema, you should. It's good to support local businesses, it's less expensive, and it's so darn cute there on the Blvd. And if you don't mind splurging on a great theater experience, I reccomend going to the Alameda Theater and Cineplex. This theater is beautiful. It reminds me of the El Capitan in Hollywood. And it's in Alameda, which is so charming and full of wonderful restaurants. Another wonderful theater to visit is the Stanford theater in Palo Alto. It has been restored and shows fantastic old movies. And like the Alameda Cineplex, it is located around many delicious reatuarants. Perhaps I should do a blog post on theaters in the Bay Area...? And speaking of the Bay Area...

*Going to Berkeley! Erika came home like a day and Linds and I seized that opportunity to grab her and go to one of my very favorite cities. The people, the food, the shops, the view of the Bay...it's always a delight, never disappoints. And of course, the photos and videos that result...

*Disneyland! I went there for two days with my sister and my nieces. We had a great time, the girls looked adorable in their princess dresses, and, well, it's Disneyland! I never get sick of that place. I've go to find a way to work there someday. If not in the park, then for Disney in general.

*Going to baseball games! I got a few tickets from a woman my mom knows and went to the A's game with Leif, Brett, and Justin. It was so fun, and they actually won the game! I also went earlier this week to the Giants game with Jen. I'm not against the Giants in any way, I just grew up loving the A's. I love going to Giant's game because the ball park and it's location is stunning. Jen informed me of all the green qualities of the park, including solar panels and an energy efficient garlic fry stand. You can read about it here. I enjoyed noting the differences between going ot a Giants game and going to an A's game. For instance, the man walking up the stairs at the Giants game holding a glass of wine and deluxe Sunday. That man at the A's game would have had a 40 and an Otter Pop. I love A's games.

*Reading books for fun! I finished Kite Runner and am now working on The Time Traveler's Wife. After that will be My Sister's Keeper. I'm still not working, which is a drag, but it means I have more time to spend reading, which is quite nice.

*Going to CSUEB's graduation! I got to see Jess, Jen, and Erica all graduate. It was a warm day after a bunch of cloudy cold-ish days. It's cool to see the people I love accomplish good things, and it encourages me in my own academic journey. In theory I should only have 3 years of school left, but with the cost of school...it could be longer, unfortunately. I'm eager to get it done and move on with the rest of my life, but I must trudge on, and do what I can. And when I get to that graduation day, and the people I love are there to celebrate with me...what a sweet day that will be! But for now, it was great to be the one cheering on my friends on their big day. :)

Erica and I have started watching Alias this summer (gotta support anything JJ Abrams is behind!), so I'm gonna finish the disk and send it back to Netflix. Allow me to take this moment to encourage you to do a few things:

+Read more. I highly reccommend The Kite Runner, but just read any good book you can get your hands on, really. Make time for it.

+If you don't watch LOST, start watching from season one on abc.com. It is better than any moive or tv show I have ever seen, and you have until 2010 to catch up! Anyone can do that.

+Check out some new music: City and Colour, Pomplamoose (this band is not available on Pandora, but you can listen on youtube), and She and Him. And if it's good ol' rock n roll you want, take a listen to The Cars greatest hits, or The Monkees greatest hits. "The Last Train to Clarksville" never gets old!

+Last, and best of all, read Ephesians 1 this week. Over and over. Section by section. I had a conversation with Paul Keim about this chapter, and it was so good, it brought me to tears. Allow God's Word to move you. I know we read it over and over, and we sometimes feel like we're in a rut. But no matter how busy you are, no matter how great or tough or distracting life has been...allow God to move you. Spend time with Him every day. Rest in Him. Remain in Him. Chill. Abide. Call it what you want, but friends, we need to live John 15. If you do nothing else with your summer...do this! :)

More adventures to come...
